There are many types of telescope. Among the conventional mirror telescopes, which capture light from space and shoot photos, there are many whose mirror diameter is more than 8 m. In 2007,
The world’s largest telescope became operational in Grana Canaria. Other large ones are the Vainu Bappu in Tamil Nadu (India), the Keck telescope in Hawaii (USA), and the Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona (USA), Telescopes that capture the long-wave radio waves from space are mostly shaped in the form of a dish.
Such’dishes’ can have diameters of around 300 m, such as the one in Arecibo on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico (photo), and RATAN, with a width of 600 m, in Russia. But there is another much bigger telescope system _’Very Large Array’ in New Mexico (USA). It consists of 27 individual telescopic dishes, each measuring 25 m, which are arranged in the shape of a large ‘Y.’ The data captured by them is put together to make a single image .in this way, the telescopes from a single large antenna of the size of around 30 km.
